Little Ark Grinder

Little Ark Grinder

The best thing about the Little Ark Grinder is its versatility. It can be a stone grinder or a burr grinder. It can be hand-cranked or electrically powered. It can produce fine or coarse grounds.

The Little Ark Grinder comes with two sets of grinding wheels –burrs and stones. With a simple twist of the thumbscrew fastening the grinding wheels to the body, you can install the grinder suited to what you wish to process. This is a convenient and efficient way to grind, and whether you’re preparing a tasty snack to nibble whilst playing party poker, or you’re a professional chef, you’ll soon find it to be your favorite kitchen appliance.

Grains and beans such as soybeans, rice, field beans, corn, sesame seeds, coffee, or millet cannot be satisfactorily ground with stones because of their moisture or oil content. These are better processed with burr grinders. Flour from them, however, are not as fine as those from the stone grinders. The burr grinders are made of extremely hard metals that are resistant to corrosion and can thus be expected to last a lifetime.

Wheat, oats, rye, barley, and other dry grains, on the other hand, can be ground to superfine consistency with the stone grinders. The stone mills of the Little Ark are made of superior quality material resulting in stones that are wear-resistant and virtually indestructible.

Retsel Corporation, the makers of the Little Ark, sells a conversion kit for motorizing this hand-cranked mill consisting of pulleys and belts. They do not sell motors, though. You will need to buy a suitable one elsewhere and install it yourself. Do-it-yourselfers may have no problem with this, but to those whose only interest in the grinder is the flour it produces, it may be a challenge.

The thumbscrew that releases the grinding heads also adjusts the coarseness of the grounds. The tighter it is screwed in, the finer the grounds. With this adjustment you can get either superfine flour or cracked grains.
